Five Dollar Finds

The Goodwill has been my good friend in the last couple of months. I’ve been finding some great finds such as these Chico’s pants aka another pair of printed “pajama pants” for the outrageous price of $3.99!

Let me tell you how I got lucky with this price.  As I was checking out, I mentioned to the cashier how much I loved these pajama pants and as she typed into the cash register she yelled, “One pair of  pajama pants $3.99.” I smiled inside because I knew I got a deal!  The cashier had no clue these were not real pajama pants and I guess she didn’t see the March issue of Elle magazine‘s editorial on printed pajama pants.

The magazine showcased pajama pants from such designers as John Galliano, Tucker, BeBe and United Bamboo…all well priced over $100.

Well kudos for me because I got the look for less…..It pays to use fashion jargon!

Weekend Recap

This weekend was filled with friends, family, and trying to beat this Texas heat which is well over 100 degrees.  Because it was so HOT I wanted to keep my outfit cool and simple. What’s simpler than a little black dress?

Saturday I had the pleasure of attending my friend Priscilla’s baby shower. My fellow bloggers and friends Strictli Hair and Fitz Chronicles were also in attendance. I had a great time laughing and eating as the mother to be unwrapped her gifts.

Sunday Father’s Day was lovely spending time with my Dad sharing stories and laughing. We can talk for hours on all kinds of topics from politics, current events, to reality television.  It’s truly endless.
Hope your week is off to a great start!

What I Wore
Dress- Eddie Bauer
Vest- Club Monaco Thrift

My Appreciation

What I’ve learned in the last few months of blogging is how supportive the blogging community is and this past Friday I was reading Style Chic 360’s blog and she mention how she found out she was featured on Black Style Central as one of "35 Black Style Bloggers You’ll Love".  I wanted to check out the list and was SHOCKED to learn I was listed too….WOW! I wanted to dance in the streets. I’m in awe and you cannot imagine how much I appreciate the support! Thank you again to Black Style Central for this feature and be sure to check out the list of stylish bloggers!
Ok so let’s talk about these wide leg pants…

My preference is wide legs over skinny jeans/pants any day. So it was love at first sight for my ASOS super wide leg pants. I stalked the ASOS website for weeks, waiting for my size to reappear in stock and it never did. So I took a chance, and ordered the next size up and decided to get them altered.  So happy I did because they’re a perfect fit now!

Lesson learned - Take a chance, things can always be altered….

Bloggers Do It Better- Neon + Neutral

The fourth installment for Bloggers Do It Better is Neon + Neutral.  The look is to have a simple neutral palette with a pop of neon color. That is not a problem for me because I’m all about the color.  Brighter and bolder is always better!

My first goal was to resist buying anything new since I’m shopping my closet.  So I had to get crackin and see what I could find.  Lucky me, I came across this neon orange Christian Dior blazer that I found a couple of weeks ago at the Goodwill for $9.99!  Can you believe that?  That was a good thrifting day…I absolutely love the color and the gold CD buttons.

I imagined this blazer was once worn by a “well to do woman” that spent her Saturday with the Ladies Who Lunch drinking hot tea and conversing about their vacation homes.  My Saturdays are far from the Ladies Who Lunch, so I decided to add my funky flair to this blazer by pairing my splatter paint Gap Khaki pants and bold accessories.

Be sure to check out all the other bloggers in their Neon + Neutral looks!

Ask and You Shall Receive

After receiving such positive feedback regarding my Buyer’s Remorse post (here) on the Bakers Yasmeen wedges, friends encouraged me to go back to Bakers and ASK for an exchange…
I marched back into the store and demanded they accept my exchange!  OK, maybe not so much demand, I just wanted to give you guys a dramatic effect….LOL.
No, so what really happened was a friend called the store and explained my shoe dilemma. Then, the sales associate advised that I could exchange my shoes. WooHoo!!  Bakers will exchange my shoes even though my receipt said All Sales Final...Wow, that works out...no money lost!
So this weekend I returned back to Bakers.  They were happy to oblige and encouraged me to pick another shoe. Great! I’m thinking this shouldn’t take all day; I’ll pick another shoe no biggie…..NOT!  I spent hours trying on every cute sandal in a size 9 and nothing looked good.  I felt guilty because I had Brittany, the sales associate, running back and forth to the stock room like a crazy person. But she was nice and never got upset with me being so indecisive. I also want to say a special thank you to my 7 1/2 month pregnant friend for sitting there watching me try on sandals, in an uncomfortable chair with no back support!!!! LOL!!  What a trooper!
I almost lost all hope regarding my exchange until I saw the accessories rack.  Yippee!  They had an assortment of jewelry to choose from and a buy one get one 50% off sale.  I picked out a necklace, a pair of earrings and 3 bracelets.
Thank you guys for your encouragement and sales associate Brittany! I’m very pleased with my new accessories and can’t wait to wear them…
Lesson learned - It pays to ASK!

Memories

Ok, so I begin my “Shop Your Closet- Self Challenge” and I’m pleasantly surprised by what I found thus far. Case in point…this outfit! I’ve only worn this dress and leggings one time and I can tell you exactly when and where. Isn’t that funny, when you can look at clothing items and it brings back some memories?

I bought this dress last year at Kohl’s and wore it once to work. I received plenty of compliments but somehow never wore it again…until now. Why you ask? Well, this dress was buried between a set of dresses in the closet that no longer fit but I refuse to get rid of them.  Did I mention I have a closet of many sizes? I’ll save that craziness for another blog post!

These leggings are almost a year old too! I found them at a JCPenney clearance sale. I wore them to my BFF’S birthday party. That night, I danced like there was no tomorrow and my feet suffered the next day. Good Times!

The necklace I wore to Luci Lui’s birthday dinner 3 years ago at PF Changs. I remember that night because it was my second time eating at PF Changes and I was not too pleased with my food but I loved the atmosphere and conversation! I must admit, I prefer Mexican food over Chinese, so PF Changs had no chance with me.

Let me talk about these shoes…they’re super old but I love them! I bought these shoes back in the day at Bakers. It was so long ago, that I wrote a check that took Bakers forever to cash! That’s how you know they’re old because who writes checks anymore?? LOL! We are a credit/debit society now….

Another benefit of shopping your closet…you get to stroll down memory lane!

Dress- Kohl’s
Leggings- JCPenney

Shopaholics

I’m digging all things bright...colors and prints! So I’m getting the best of both worlds in this outfit with my linen fuchsia blazer and my printed Old Navy shorts.  I found these shorts in my closet, still new with the tags. Yikes, I remember I bought them last year on clearance!

You know you’re a shopaholic when you find stuff in your closet that's brand new.  I tend to buy stuff hoping to match it with something else, and then months go by and I totally forget about what I bought.  I’m sure that’s true for most shopaholics.

But I’m vowing to stay out of the stores for the next two months and shop my closet!  Shopping your closet is something you've got to do more often because you find things you haven’t worn in months. It’s also the perfect opportunity to organize and evaluate what you do have. Get rid of anything old and create new outfits.
That’s my favorite part of shopping my closet, creating new outfits. The only downfall is the messy room with all the clothes on the floor!  Who wants to clean that up?

So shopaholics let’s rejoice and shop our closets.
You never know what you’re going to find!

Shorts- Old Navy
Tank tops- Target and Thrift

Pajama Pants

A friend at worked told me “Oh, I love those pants but are those pajama pants?”

“Well, Yes and No” They’re not the traditional pajama pants you sleep in, but they feel as good.  And who wouldn’t love wearing pajamas to work? These pants are so much fun to wear because they’re comfy and soft.

The print reminds me of wall paper from the 60’s.  My favorite thing about this shirt is the detailing and the decorative buttons.

Can an outfit make you happy? Mine does!

Pants- Talbots Thrifted
Shirt- Elle Kohl’s
